Houston will look to wrap up a division title at their home field of Reliant Stadium on Sunday. They have had an amazing season of both good and bad luck as they have managed to win despite injuries to Key players. To make the next step they will have to beat an explosive Carolina Panthers team who can put up points in bunches, but gives them up in bunches as well. First team to make a stop on defense should win.
Houston comes into the game with a 10-3 record and has recently been led by rookie QB T.J Yates. Yates has done an amazing job filling in for injured Matt Shaub who will not be returning anytime soon. Yates has had help with the running of Arian Foster who seems to be quite healthy now, but has battled hamstring issues. Star receiver Andre Johnson has also been in and out of the lineup with hamstring issues as well, and star linebacker Brian Cushing has recently been sidelined. Through it all, Houston has continued to find a way to get wins. On Sunday they will certainly have their hands full regardless of Carolinas sub-par record.
Carolina comes into the game at 4-9 even though they average about 400 yards of offense a game and 24 points. Clearly looking at those statistics, one could see that the defense has significant issues. Led by Cam Newton, Carolina gets the ball in the end zone by land and by air. Cam is certainly a hands-down shoe in for rookie of the year and has outplayed everyone’s expectations. Unfortunately, Carolina’s defense is kryptonite against Newton’s touchdown dances.
