The Houston Texans have now lost 2 straight games to teams with records below 500. First, 2 weeks ago, they were embarressed by Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers who won by keeping the Houston offense off the field and scoring almost at will. This past Thursday they faced a 1-13 Indianapolis Colt team who until the past two games were unable to win a game. Houston had previously been cruising even as injuries have been adding up and backups have been brought in. Houston is still a lock for the playoffs, but something needs to change fast for them to be a contender against other tough AFC opponents. Their last game of the regular season will be against the Tennessee Titans and will hopefully show that Houston is, in fact, ready for the post season.
Houston's last game against the Colts was particularly tough as the Colts were able to take the lead with under a minute left in the game. Houston allowed the Colts to continue to hang around and ultimately gave up a huge drive and score as Reggie Wayne Caught a Dan Orlovsky pass to seal the deal. Orlovsky made Houston's Defense look below average and Houston's own offense was sub-par that day. The best thing Houston had going for them in the Thursday game was their kicker Neil Rackers who could not miss and got many chances.
Houston needs to get full strength and do so in a hurry. BJ Yates needs healthy players on the field if he can continue to move the team any further. He also need a viable running game in order to open up the pass. So far the team has had a lot of hoops to jump through. Lets just hope they are not going to continue to trip through those hoops down the stretch as they head into the playoffs. Next weekend's game against the Titans will basically be a tryout for what they will have and be going into the playoffs.
